Why look at your self-image?
When you have a deeper understanding about your real self and the game of life, you can reap more from your time on earth.
Have you noticed the areas of life that you understand, you enjoy more? For example, these could be sports, work, relationships or hobbies. With self-understanding you can relax and delight in your life to a greater degree. To understand yourself, a good place to start is with your self-image.
How do you see yourself and what do you think about yourself? This self-evaluation is a process that we may not consciously take time to do. Chances are, however, there are past images or thoughts that can pop up and influence us.
What is your self-image?
Your self-image is like your inner thermostat that determines how you perceive yourself and your life. It can influence how much you enjoy each day. It affects how far you go in living, or not living, the life you came to earth to experience.
Certain experiences have been etched into your consciousness. Some of these you remember and others you may not recall consciously, but they can still affect you.
Surface Self-Image
Parts of our self-image seem obvious, and are drawn from observing ourselves physically or our actions. Also, we get a sense of ourselves from the way others react to us. Do they like us or show appreciation?
The way others treat us and react to us can help us or it can be a blow to our self-image, if we let it. Later, however, we can come to understand that others’ reactions have more to do with them and not necessarily with us. But, it can seem like it is our fault, especially as children.
Young people can be greatly influenced by the outside world, especially by parents or whoever raised them. This influence can continue into adulthood, unless we take time to clarify and make changes.
So, we come to know a great deal about our self-image correctly or skewed with everything from our physical characteristics to our strengths and weaknesses. For instance, we may shape our self-image according to how well we do in sports, school, relationships, or our careers, and many areas of life.
Sub-conscious Self-Image
Some pieces that help form our self-image lie below the surface. Sub-conscious thoughts, pictures and feelings influence our actions and decisions. These inner images and thoughts can help us when they are constructive.
Take, for instance, the quality of caring. If an individual person has a sense or self-image of being caring, he or she will tend to take time to help themselves and others.
If people did not experience much love and caring in their early years, they may not see these qualities in their self-image. As a result, they may jump into situations without taking the time to evaluate what is best.
Once we realize the cause of our reactions, we can begin to make fundamental changes in our self-image. In this example, we can take time to be more relaxed and evaluate situations before taking action. When we are relaxed, we tend to be more connected with our soul being (true genius) and our angels. Then we can often make better decisions.
Learning from our past experiences is an important key to improving our self image. If we had situations before where we acted too quickly, or were under pressure, we may find the outcomes were often not so good.
Sometimes key parts of our self-image take a little scratching below the surface to know and understand. When we take time out to regroup ourselves, we can learn many valuable lessons that help us fine-tune our self-image. This is how we become clearer about our real selves.
If we were raised in an environment where we felt loved, encouraged and appreciated, the seeds are sewn for a positive self-image. When our parents or whoever raised us are a positive role models, their example and the habits we pick up from them can contribute to our self-image.
Self-image can be a Mixed Bag
Yes, for many of us self-image can be a mixed bag. Some of these internal images and concepts may align with our true selves (+’s in the picture to right) and other parts may not (-‘s in this picture).
We may have found parts of our life that provide fulfillment and joy. Others areas may not be rewarding or may be detrimental. In the latter case we may be living from outdated pictures or ways of thinking that no longer serve us.
We can create a unique self-image that aligns with our inner being. If you have already been doing this for yourself, congratulations!
Finding truth for yourself
Wherever you are on your journey, you can take a look at experiences that helped create your current self-image. Here is an exercise you can do to discover more about your self image.
On a folded sheet of paper list both the positive experiences (on one side of the sheet) and difficult situations (in the other column). The first seven years can have the most influence with images and thoughts we still hold, either consciously or sub-consciously.
By doing an evaluation, you will gain more from this blog article. Most likely, your self-image includes both “pluses” and “minuses”.
The images and thoughts that you recall from your earlier years can be evaluated with your present state of consciousness. Time and experience can give you the benefit of evaluating ourselves with more detachment and maturity. Let us know how you find this works for you. We enjoy hearing from you.
Go ahead and list on a sheet of paper some of your important experiences.
Looking into your self-image
What happened in each these experiences that you listed? What did you learn from these situations? Is there more to learn and heal?
Do you see and appreciate what you have done in your life? Can you forgive yourself for any mistakes along the way? Actually, there are no mistakes. They are stepping stones on your journey.
Learning and Growing
You can review what you have been through and how you might see yourself today based on these past inner images and feelings. You may want to consider how you have grown and who you are now. Also, is there any need to hold on to the self-images that aren’t helping you?
Be patient with yourself and don’t feel you have to do it all right now and by yourself. You can do what you feel is best at this time. You also have the backing of your angels to help you clarify and be more of your real self.
What matters is how you have evolved and continue to learn and grow as the soul you are. Your higher state of consciousness is what you take with you when you move on from planet earth.
Do you realize how much you have done already, whether is was a difficult or easy path? With deeper clarity about yourself and with your angels, you gain more from your journey.
Your Real Self
In the bigger picture of our existence, our Real Self or our soul being is a kind, positive, loving being. That is our true nature although it may be covered by concepts or images that we picked up along the way,
If you find there is a gap between that pure, loving being you are and how you see yourself, you can bridge the division. With hope, time, patience and the help of the angels, the pieces will fall into place. You will find you can feel and bring out more of your true soul nature.
What is a key to doing this? There’s a song that says it well: “Accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative and don’t mess with Mr. In-Between.”
If you focus on being constructive, this will shine light on your true self, the better parts of other people and the world in which you live.
Our past, present and future
Another key to letting our real selves shine is being in the present moment. There is no point in dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, for all we have is the present.
You may feel fulfilled with your current involvements and past accomplishments, be they with family, work, hobbies, passions, your community or a combination of these. You are building on your own self-image in the way that feels good to you.
On the other hand, you may want to do more of what you sense is important. It is up to you. You can create the self-image that you want.
There can be a number of images and concepts that people have and they may not even realize it. Many of these are subconscious and can have a major influence in our lives.
